1. General Questions

Do I have to pay to be on the website?

No.

While there are upgrade packages for business owners available for purchase, the site is free to register and participate with events, groups, photos and video.

2. about the Business Directory

How do I make my business listing more attractive and descriptive?

Listings in the Tehachapi Community Guide are free & offer simple business name, address and phone number.

To add a description, link to business website, map, photos and any future features, the business owner must have an active paid upgrade account with Tehachapi Community Guide.

Upgrade account features are listed below.

Basic Upgrade ($100) includes:

6 month access to website upgrades (website link, map, photos, etc.)
placement on printed map in Tehachapi Community Guide Magazine (6 issues) *
100 free 'rate and review' business cards (one time)

Featured Upgrade ($500) includes:

Featured placement on website
6 month access to website upgrades (website link, map, photos, etc.)
Large block ad with placement on printed map in Tehachapi Community Guide Magazine (6 issues) *
100 free 'rate and review' business cards (one time)

Can a business sign up for the directory?

Yes, if a business is not currently listed in the directory, that business can at no charge send us their business name, address, phone number and category preference via email on our contact page.

For upgraded features on the business listing details page, please see the “Account upgrades” topic.

What does it cost to be featured in the directory?

A featured listing is currently only available to business owners who have upgraded their account to our $500 plan.

Can my business be in more than one category?

At the moment no.

While it is our intention in the future to allow this, we are still working to get the most appropriate categories and titles possible so businesses do not feel misplaced. We are open to suggestions regarding the titles for categories and subcategories.

2a. about reviewing Businesses

How do I get more Rate & Review cards for my business?

The first 50 Rate & Review cards come with your upgrade package.

After that, packs of 100 Rate & Review cards are $10/per pack.

If you would like custom rate and review cards made for your business please contact us via our contact form. 1000 Custom business/rate & review start at $70, contact us today!

How do I review a business?

As long as you are a registered user with the site, you can review as much or as little as you want.

If you’re not registered, start there.

Next, find the business you wish to review and click submit review.

Title your review, select a rating for the business out of five stars, add your review & click submit.

3. about the Social Network

What does "sign in with Facebook" mean?

"Sign in with Facebook" means...

Anyone with a Facebook.com account can use that account to log into our site.

So, if your username is johndoe and your password is 1234 for Facebook... you are able to use that same username (johndoe) and password (1234) for this website as long as you use the ‘sign in with Facebook’ button.

How do I sign up?

If you’re a business owner and you’ve upgraded your listing through our sales staff, no worries, our staff will set up your account and get you on your way shortly.

If you’re signing up on your own, there are registration links in a couple areas of the site. On the Homepage tab and throughout the site in the right-hand side of the header you should see a log in form with ‘create account’ link. Click that link and follow the steps. Or, on the ‘social network’ tab click ‘click here to register’.

If you’re already signed up with facebook, you may use those login credentials to login here too. Use your facebook account username and password to connect the two sites.

What is my profile for?

Your Tehachapi Community Guide profile is your way to tell the community more about you. If you’re familiar with social networking sites, profiles often get things started. It’s no different here at TCG. Filling out your profile will help your profile to look active and engaged with the community.

3a. about the Events area

How do I promote an event?

After successfully registering with the site you will be able to add events. Click on the ‘events’ tab at the top of the site and find ‘create’. Follow the steps to fill in the appropriate event information, click submit and you’re done.

What events are allowed in the Community Guide?

We hope we won’t need to say no to any. While we reserve the right to say no to any event or group for any reason, we will be using an all ages based approval process. This is not a place for adult [21+ / X] rated material. Nor is it a place to post racist or sexist discussions or comments. Material that crosses these lines will be removed.

3b. about the Groups area

How do I form a group?

After you’ve successfully registered with the site, you will be forming, adding, joining, doing much from the ‘social network’ tab. So under the tab social network find the sub navigation for groups. The groups feature is considered a community application so it can also be found under the applications menu. Once you’ve found groups, locate the ‘create’ link and follow the steps. All set.

Tehachapi Community Guide magazine prints monthly. Check for new magazines at the beginning of each month.
